adidas d. lillard 3:
color & materials; i think we started calling it Dame 3 this season.
I wasn’t sold on this silhouette immediately, but I’ll be honest, it really grew on me.
There were a lot of discussions on how to block Dame’s third icon model and in the end I’m pretty happy with what we were able to create. The Year of the Rooster and Floral City II stood out to me as well as the Aggies NCAA edition. The midsole acted as a nice canvas for graphics (done by Jeff Proctor) so I tended to leave that option open only for hyped articles or PEs.
The TPU laden yarns was new tech at that time and I felt like mixing it with a very old school foam and net mesh molding technique. The concept was that I was mixing the newness that Dame was bringing to the NBA with the nature of his old soul which is a very unique quality among young athletes. This was purely an internal concept, not communicated to the consumers, but it was stuff like this that drove how I materialized shoes.
